Mexico’s Magical Towns are tourist destinations that have been recognized for their history, culture, natural attractions and deep-rooted traditions. These places are a unique experience for visitors, immersing them in the magic of their cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, handicrafts and gastronomy. Since this initiative began 22 years ago, Mexico’s state governors have nominated tourist destinations for the prestigious title of Pueblo Magico, with the goal of attracting tourism and stimulating economic growth. With this year’s recent announcement, 45 new destinations have been selected, bringing the total number of Pueblos Magicos to 177.

Requirements to become a Magical Town

Among the requirements for a municipality or region to be designated as a Magical Town is that it must have a population of at least 20,000 inhabitants; be less than 200 kilometers from a major tourist destination; maintain a tourism development program for at least three years; guarantee health and public safety for tourists; and have unique symbolic and cultural attractions.
